The Missin’ Class Blues

By Billy, Grade Four

 It was Wednesday afternoon
And time for science class
Yes it was Wednesday afternoon
And time for science class
But I was told I couldn’t go
And that stopped me real fast
It is the best thing
I ever do all week
Lawd, it is the best thing
I ever do all week
The class I missed
That very Wednesday afternoon
The class I missed
That very Wednesday afternoon
And later I realized I would’ve tested for microbes
So very very soon

In Time of Microbe-Testing

By Billy, Grade Four

In time of microbe-testing
I
Observe small creatures reacting
Many microbes move
And atoms come together
My knowledge grows
Of a small,
Small
World.

In time of microbe-testing
Science lends
A helping hand
And there is space for guessing
Microscopes’ lenses focus
To catch a glimpse
Of a world
Smaller than our own
An active place,
In time of microbe-testing
When science
Grows so small
